The Last Days of Dogtown
by Anita Diamanat

"Set in early 1800s Massachusetts and inspired by the settlement of Dogtown, Diamant reimagines the community of castoffs...all eking out a harsh living in the barren terrain of Cape Ann. Diamant brings the period alive with domestic details and movingly evokes the surprising bonds the outcasts form in their dying days. This chronicle of a dwindling community...renders these forgotten lives with imagination and sensitivity. "

As You Choose

Spirituality

Your life right now is the reflection of the choices you have made up until now. It is only when you live in a victim consciousness that you believe you had no choice. The most empowering tool you have in creating a wonderful human experience, is to remember that each moment you are at “choice point.” Each moment you have a choice about how you want to perceive the situation, you have a choice about what you want to believe about it, and you have a choice about how you want to respond. All these choices are within your power.

Marriage: Responsibility vs. Fault
User Rating: / 0
Relationships
Fault implies that you are the cause of a situation. Your ego - your conditioned wounded self - believes that you have control over other peoples' feelings and behavior, and over the outcome of things.  Responsibility is about the ability to respond. Every situation in life offers us opportunities to respond, and how we respond determines how we feel and what we attract to us.

Sexuality

Sex. Possibly the most loaded word in any language, and with good reason. Sex reaches deep down into who we are at our core, and tells truths about us that are undeniable. Freud tapped into this over a century ago, and his insights still reverberate across the decades, and did a lot to break apart the rigid taboos against talking about sex that are a legacy from the Victorian culture.

Breast Healthy Eating

Breast Healthy Foods

How in the world can what you eat aid in prevention of breast cancer? Breast cancer is hormonally based. It thrives in the presence of estrogen. When a great deal of estrogen is present, the likelihood of developing breast cancer multiplies.

Several foods naturally block the effect of estrogen. By encorporating these foods into your diet, you can reduce the presence of estrogen and lower your risk for breast cancer without medication. Will this guarantee you will never develop breast cancer? No, but eating a breast-friendly diet may help tip the odds in your favor

Foods high in soy or flaxseed are highly effective estrogen blockers. The typical American diet doesn't call for much in this department, so to give you some ideas, check out the recipes below:

Cruciferous vegetables help break down estrogen into a "good" form that is not associated with breast cancer. Broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower are common examples of cruciferous vegetables. As with soy-base foods, western cultures are not usually very heavy in this department. The following are a great way to add some veggies to your diet:

Strangely enough, not all fats are bad for you. Fats from the Omega-3 group are always a good choice when eating healthy. The Omega-3 group includes fish-based oils and olive oil. There are lots of ways to encorporate this into your diet beyond olive oil salad dressings. Take a look at the following links for some ideas.

Diets high in fiber are great protection from a variety of cancers, breast cancer included. You can start by tossing the white bread out and choosing whole grain wheat or oatmeal instead. Whole grain cereals, like Total and oatmeal, as well as whole grain bagels are always great breakfast choices too. For more ideas, take a look at the following links (you'll notice that many include cruciferous vegetables too making them some of the best breast healthy choices) :
