News September 2006 (Medialink) -- On the fifth anniversary of September 11th, hundreds of volunteers in New York City and around the country are giving their time in memory of those who lost their lives as part of an annual initiative to honor victims by doing something positive each year on the anniversary of 9/11. David Paine, founder of myGoodDeed.org | The program – myGoodDeed.org -- comes from One Day’s Pay, a prominent nonprofit group that urges Americans to observe 9/11 as a national day of voluntary service. The launch of myGoodDeed.org – with the help of partners My Space and AOL -- has sparked a grassroots movement and inspired hundreds of thousands of people across the country to pledge their own good deeds on the site. This footage includes one of the largest events taking place in New York City on Governor’s Island, where more than 150 volunteers have gathered in revitalization projects to enhance future visitor programs. Activities include assembling picnic tables, painting, cleaning and weeding around the perimeter of the island's historic houses. Visitors to the Web site, myGoodDeed.org, may post their pledge to perform at least one good deed of their own choosing in observance of 9/11. Viewers can also log onto myGoodDeed.org and enter their zip code to find a local volunteer location nearest them. Contact:
